Address: Katedralna 8 , 14-530 Frombork
The most important and most valuable element of Frombork is undoubtedly the Cathedral Hill, which is a top-class monument. The main building of this complex is the Gothic Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, considered a pearl of Warmian architecture. The Gothic hall temple has a length of 96 m. Numerous tourists coming here from Poland and abroad are impressed by the impressive sharpness with excellent proportions of the object. Slender towers with long spiers grow from the corners. In the center of the roof is a baroque lantern. A rectangular presbytery is adjacent to the eastern facade, while the western façade is adjoined. A baroque chapel was added at the southern wall. It is necessary to look up at the lace tops that give the cathedral lightness and subtlety. Inside the temple, valuable, rich Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque furnishings have been preserved. Above the entrance there is a baroque organ prospectus with moving figures - it is worth listening to the characteristic sound of the instrument. You should also see the beautiful main and side altars: the right one made of black marble with white motifs and figures (including St. George killing the dragon) and the left one, gilded. The baroque chapel is covered with colorful frescoes, the presbytery is surrounded by four-poster stalls. An extremely important figure is also associated with the cathedral - the most outstanding Polish astronomer Mikołaj Kopernik stayed in Frombork, who as a canon of the Warmian chapter lived and worked on the Cathedral Hill. It is here that arguably the most famous work in the world "De Revolutionibus", which changed the existing concept of the universe.
