The castle from the 14th century is one of the most valuable monuments of Gothic architecture in Poland. It was built in the years 1350-1401 by bishops, from Herman from Prague to Henry Sorbom. It was built on a narrow peninsula at the mouth of Symsarna to the wider Łyna. It is surrounded by a wide moat, probably fed by the waters of Symsarna. The courtyard was surrounded by two-story cloisters. In the north-east corner a tower was built, towering over the whole building, in the other corners there are towers on consoles, built after the great fire in 1442. In the courtyard of the outer ward there is a baroque statue of St. Catherine from 1756. The castle has cellars that served as food warehouses and a prison. Currently, part of the basement under the east wing is intended for exhibition halls (elements of garden architecture and cannons with bishops' crests). In October 1957, it was taken over by the Social and Cultural Association "Lakeland". It established the Warmian Museum in 1961, which on January 1, 1963 took over the Warmian Museum in Olsztyn, creating a branch here. The castle is entirely available to visitors. Inside it is worth seeing: -the chapel on the first floor in the eastern part, -Great Refectory (court room) also in the east wing, -the high tower (one of the rooms served as the home chapel of bishops), the room above the house chapel was used as a treasury, Audience, - in the west wing of the castle there was a small refectory, and in the part of the west and south wing the chapter house in which Gothic paintings have survived: the list of bishops, the scene of adoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Bishop Anselm and others. Lidzbarski Castle is one of the finest and best preserved defensive structures from the Middle Ages in Poland. It was recognized in 1963 as a historical monument and entered into the register of monuments of the group "0".
